This year WAGS received a record number of 14 applications for seed grants. We were able to provide a total of $3600 to eight exciting community projects, with a maximum grant amount of $500. A big thanks to our generous business supporters and donors who make our seed grant program possible.

This year’s seed grant recipients are:

Asheville Poverty Initiative/12 Baskets – soil and mulch to enhance the patio garden/community gathering place.

Bountiful Cities FEAST garden at Hall Fletcher Elementary School – improvements to the school garden including a boundary fence and a new shade structure.

Francine Delaney New School for Children – revitalization of the school gardens including raised beds, veggies, pollinator plants, gourds, and fruit.

Lucy Herring Elementary School Peace Garden – support for a project that will teach second graders about pollinators’ life cycles and create educational signage for the garden meadow.

Rainbow Community School – new garden in front of the Omega Middle School building on State Street, including pollinator plants and edibles.

RiverLink Pocket Park, 15 Florida Avenue – creation of a small community park that welcomes people, pollinators, and birds with native trees, shrubs, and perennials.

The Odd – new pollinator garden on Haywood Road at the corner of the parking lot.

Trinity United Methodist Church – overhaul of the front garden facing Haywood Road, including more native pollinator plants.
